So… feeling adventurous? Your “one-time use” Disposible Camera doesn’t have to be one-time only. With a bit of patience (and a touch of film-camera confidence), you can reload it with a fresh roll and keep the magic going. It’s a slightly technical job, so don’t stress if your results look a little… experimental. That’s part of the fun.
Instructions:
Reloading Your "Disposable" Camera
What you’ll need:
- A disposable camera with its original film fully shot
- A new roll of 35mm film
- A box cutter
- Wooden matchsticks or toothpicks
- A small screwdriver for rewinding
Unlike your usual film camera, a disposable starts with the film tucked inside the cassette and winds out as you shoot. Here’s how to give it a second life:
- Make sure all 18 shots are used and that the rewind wheel turns freely. If it’s stiff, stop - you’ll risk losing every dreamy holiday photo.
- Flip the camera over and gently unhook the latch beside the winding wheel.
- Open the bottom panel where the film roll sits.
- Remove the battery cover and battery.
- Unclip the remaining side of the shell to open the camera fully.
- Lift out your finished roll - it’s ready for developing.
- Load your new film and thread it onto the internal spool. Close the case when you’re ready to wind.
- Use your matchsticks: one to block the internal wheel, the other to lift the tiny latch on the rewind wheel.
- Hold everything in place, close the lid, and use your screwdriver in the small hole beneath the coil to twist it secure. Remove the matchsticks and you’re good to go.
Your camera is officially reset and ready for another summer of perfectly imperfect moments. Enjoy.
